Mold for Custom Orthotics

The Benefits of Custom Orthotics

Many people have structural (bony) problems with their feet that can affect their function (such as walking and running). It can lead to pain in the feet and other areas of the body such as knees, hips and even low back.
Custom orthotics, also known as shoe inserts or arch supports, are designed to support the problem areas in the feet that cause discomfort. They can help compensate for joint deformities, lift an arch that is falling, relieve heel pain due to arthritis or bone deformities, and even reduce knee, hip and low back pain.

What are the benefits that custom orthotics provide?

Corrects foot abnormalities:

Custom orthotics can correct abnormalities such as low or high arches, bunions, supination/pronation (rolling in or out) and many others and can provide greater balance to both feet. This is important because feet are the base of the rest of the biomechanical chain of the body. If the feet are not functioning properly then other problems may arise in the knees, hips and low back.

Relieves Pain and Prevents Injury:

By providing more balance to the feet, they can help to prevent foot, ankle, knee, hip and low back pain. They can also prevent the feet from developing ulcers, calluses, and corns that can be uncomfortable and painful.

Enhanced Sports Performance:

Foot abnormalities can affect sports performance. This doesn’t just apply to running or walking. Golf stance, pitching or cycling may all be affected by foot pain. Custom orthotics can help with success in sports and other activities while reducing the risk of injury.

How are custom orthotics made?

Edgar Family Chiropractic Custom orthotics are made specifically for your foot, unlike generic, mass-produced shoe inserts that are sold over the counter or online. They are designed to match the contours and size of your feet and provide support exactly where you need it. At the Edgar Family Chiropractic Clinic, the doctors will mold your foot in a foam cast. This cast is then sent to our partner company to be made. Once they arrive back in the clinic you will be contacted to pick them up. We can also send off the completed insurance claim to your insurance company if they offer coverage for custom orthotics.
